There’s something about Mother’s Day that makes you stop and reflect a little deeper.
The flowers get delivered. The cards get signed. The photos get posted. But after the celebration settles down, I think that’s when the gratitude really sinks in.
This year, I found myself thinking less about the holiday itself and more about the woman behind it all – my mom. I may not be a mom yet, but when I think about the day I step into that role, my heart feels at peace. That peace comes from knowing I’ve been blessed with the best example right in front of me my whole life, my mom. She’s the reason I feel confident about the kind of mom I’ll be one day, because everything I know about love, sacrifice, and devotion, I learned first from her.
She’s been there in every season and every role whether it be cheering me on at dance competitions, to standing ringside as a horse show mom. She’s also the mom all my friends know they can call if they ever need anything, because her love and support have always extended far beyond just our family.
When me and my two older brothers were growing up, she chose to stay home so that every detail of our lives was cared for. I know I thanked her in little ways back then, but now that I’m older, I see more clearly just how much she gave and how deeply she poured herself into us. She showed me how to love deeply, how to lead with grace and kindness, and how to stay grounded in my faith when life feels overwhelming. When I think about one day being a mom, I don’t feel fear, I feel very thankful. Thankful that I’ve had such a remarkable example in my life. My mom has shown me the path of motherhood, not with lectures or rules, but by living with love, patience, and devotion.
So after this Mother’s Day, I just keep coming back to one overwhelming feeling: gratitude.
Gratitude that I was raised by a woman who made motherhood look strong, beautiful, gentle, and deeply meaningful.
I hope one day I can become even half the mother she’s been to me. Although honestly, I like to joke that I’m already one step ahead because we look alike, sound alike, and act alike more every year. 😂
But truly, if I can give my future children the same love, friendship, support, and unwavering presence she’s given me, I’ll know I’ve done something right. And when that day comes, I already know she’ll be the very best “GG” imaginable.
For her example, her prayers, her sacrifices, and her love, I’ll always be thankful.
