6 Transition Pieces to Stretch Your Kid’s Closet to Summer

The weather is warming. Your son’s pants are tightening. Your daughter’s shirts are shortening. And you’re just wondering how are you going to stretch that closet of clothes through to the summer.

Here are a few pieces that will get your kids through the cool mornings and warm afternoons of springtime. And you won’t break the bank having to buy a complete spring wardrobe.

Chambray jackets and vests. We can all agree that whether preppy, hipster, granola, boy, or girl chambray layers are a definite closet staple. Layer on a jacket for cooler days. Or slip a vest over short or long sleeves. The durability and versatility here makes this piece is a must have. Even for mom too!

Lightweight sweaters and pullovers. Grab a springy floral print or bright colored cardigan to throw over any short-sleeved top. Especially when afternoon recess is warm but the morning bus stop wait is chilly, every kid needs this hanging on their backpack hook.

Dresses. Great for play, church, home, or even as a school uniform. This is the way to go for little girls. Add a pair of tights or leggings underneath. Pair it with boots. Even slip a solid color long-sleeved underneath and she’s good to go. When it’s warm enough, swap the leggings for a pair of bloomers. Slide on the flip flops and she’s set.

Pastel button ups. Soft shirts in springy hues complement an Easter ensemble with the sleeves down buttoned snugly.  You can dress this up or down too! Tuck it into pants or jeans for cool mornings. Be ready to roll the sleeves up and wear it untucked with khaki or navy shorts for a preppy summer look.

Mary Janes. Pair these with tall socks and skirts through the spring. Later, let her wear these barefooted with all her summer crops and dresses.

Leather boat shoes. Add these with dress socks and khakis for a put together spring look. For summer wear these sockless with shorts for a cute casual look.
