Before You Barcode : 4 Simple Steps to Make Barcoding a Breeze

After the prepping has been done and the clothing has been hung follow these four easy steps to ensure the consigning battle is won!

Okay, okay, okay. We know that was a little cheesy, but seriously, we want YOU to succeed when consigning. Barcodes being placed correctly on strings tags is important. This ensures they can be read and scanned easily at checkout. Below is a picture tutorial of a few simple steps to make sure you finish strong.

Make sure your items are prepped (you can read more about prepping items here) and supplies are handy before starting. Begin by making sure everything is on hangers with the hanger creating a question mark when facing you, and that your string tag has been attached with a safety pin to the right side of the garmet. Double check that all labels were printed in color. If you are working on more than one batch confirm that the labels you have match the items you are currently working on. Now it’s time for Step 2!

When prepping your items we suggest numbering each string tag as you enter the items. The barcodes print out in the order they are entered into the system. By doing this you can compare that the item you are placing a barcode on is correct.

Start the second step by matching the number in the upper left hand corner of the barcode label to the garment that is numbered the same. Peel off the label and place the top half on the front of the tag covering the corresponding number. When placed correctly half of the color block should still be hanging off the tag. Use the photo above as reference. Move to Step 3!

Now that the barcode is attached on the front you will wrap the remaining part of the label around to the back. If placed correctly the WHOLE barcode should be on the back side of the string tag. You did it! Head to Step 4 to finish up!

You have now finished placing your barcode on your first item. Repeat Steps 1-3 until all of your items have been labeled with barcodes. Once that is complete you are DONE! All that’s left is to come and drop off your items during the designated times for the event in your area.
