How is it already nearly November?! Is this year literally flying by for you too?? With the fall semester in full swing school-aged kids everywhere are probably itching for the upcoming holidays and breaks! (Or is that us?!) ;)

Whether your kids love school, or have days where they struggle, little encouragements can go a long way and set your child up for success. Here are some tips on how to get your child excited about school and make the transition back into school after the upcoming holiday vacations go smoothly.

Enroll Them in Extracurriculars

Extracurricular activities are a blast.  Talk to your child and see what sports or other activities catch their interest.  While they might be reluctant at first, once they get started and make some new friends, they’ll likely have a great time and learn some lessons along the way.

Write Encouraging Notes

Chances are, your child got used to spending a lot of time with you over the course of the pandemic or over the summer months.  Now that they’re going back to school in person, they might feel some separation anxiety.  This is completely normal.

To help them out, placing encouraging notes in their notebook or backpack can give them the boost they need to make it through the day.  Using the printables below, you can write your kids a heartfelt message.  If they’re having a hard time, it could be just the pick-me-up they need.  Click the image below to access the printable pdf!

Check-in Regularly

When talking to your child at the end of the school day, ask questions.  See how their day went and how they feel about their workload.  You want to make sure they don’t feel too overwhelmed.

Sometimes classes can really pick up and assignments are due left and right.  If your child is feeling like they can’t handle everything on their plate, this is a good time to step in and offer some help.

Pack Their Favorite Snacks

Lunchtime is an essential part of any student’s schedule.  It’s when they get some fresh air, hang out with friends, and reenergize for the day ahead.  The only thing that could make it better is if you packed some of their favorite treats—healthy snacks of course.

To complement your child’s meal, consider also packing some inspirational printables in their lunchbox.  A little encouragement can go a long way. Click the image below to access the printable pdf!

Create Routines

As a kid, it can be hard to plan ahead.  This often makes juggling school assignments difficult and anxiety-inducing.  To help your child out, creating a daily routine can work wonders.

Set aside some time and a space for them to do homework after school.  If possible, make yourself available so, if they need help, you’re there.  If they aren’t accustomed to this routine, they may resist at first.  In the long run, however, they’ll get used to it and it will be a load off of their shoulders.

As your kids enjoy time off for Thanksgiving and Christmas break the transition back to school might be stressful, but it can also be exciting. This is why it’s important to communicate with your child along the way and support them as best you can.

You can do this, mama!
